Week Ten

With the conclusion of MRC week we look to the next challenge and the end of the season for many of our teammates.  Tuesday will mark the end of the season for all non varsity participants.  Many finished their seasons after the excitement of the MRC championships.  For 9 boys and 9 girls Thursday's section 2A meet is the focal point.  A top 2 finish by a team earns them a trip to the state while a top 8 finish will guarantee an individual a state trip.
It was an exciting day at the MRC last Tuesday when the tigers boys JV toed the line finishing in 3rd place with Tommy Sullivan leading the way with a 4th place finish.  Next the girls JV perfect scored the conference plus some securing the top 7 places and 14 of the first 15 places.  Savanna DeYoung was the champion of the JV girls race.  Next on the line were the girls varsity coming away with their 6th consecutive MRC championship with 29 points.  Malina Koepp was champion and conference MVP.  Joining Malina as all conference runners where teammates Lizzy Schmidt, Jordyn Williams, McKenna Herrmann, and Emily Berger.  Alaina Herrmann was our honorable mention runner.  In the boys race Belle Plaine finished in second with Drew Hastings (2) and Kyle Siemon (4) making the all conference team.  Hunter Schmidt was our honorable mention runner.  Not to be outdone the Junior High turned in two amazing races.  The boys team led by Emmett Gerres (2) tied for first with Jordan and won the tie breaker because our sixth runner Benton Siefert beat Jordans' 6th runner.  On the girls side it was Abby Mickus crossing the line as the champion followed by four teammates to win with a perfect score.  All in all a great day to be a tiger.

Week Nine

It was another big week for the cross-country team with a spaghetti feed on Friday and working water stops at the scenic byway half marathon.  We also had another nice trip down to the south part of Section 2A.  A chance to run on this years section course at the Buc Invite was worth the trip.  The Buc Invite has a little different format than most meets compiling times instead of places.  They also took into consideration all 7 times not just top 5.  This format played to our strength and the boys and girls left victorious until St. James discovered their 3 minute addition mistake.  Even so the boys team ran a strong race finishing in second ahead of a very good Fairmont team that had beaten them a week earlier.  The kids had a great day PR's continue to drop and they appear to be poised to enter the end of the season championships.

In the 2 mile JV race we had two boys run under 12 minutes and four girls run under 14 minutes.  Emmett Gerres 11:24 and Avery Mohlin 11:58 were the boys and Greta Steinhagen 13:02, Abby Mickus 13:08, Erin West 13:22, and Sydney Weiland 13:29 were the girls.  In the varsity races Jordyn Williams had a fabulous day finishing the day as our third runner and first in her heat.  Alaina Herrmann and Kalina Wolf had excellent performances as well.  Kyle Siemon led the boys with an impressive 17:01.  Hunter Schmidt and Colton Bahr also had PR days.

This week is MRC week with the race being held at Montgomery golf course.  It will be a great day to come out and enjoy a cross-country meet.  Hope to see you all there.  See times below.

Week Eight

That means just two weeks left of the regular season.  It was a big week with competitions at the Ney Center and Fairmont.  Times were very fast at the Ney Center on Tuesday but the course was about 100 meters short.  Regardless the kids ran very well placing third in both varsity and JV.

Leading the way for the JV on Tuesday were Tanner Witt, Isiah Trimbo,  Dylan May, Calvin Hartman, for the boys and Sydney Weiland, Randi Fiskewold, Erin West, and Jessica Brueggemeier, for the girls.  In the Varsity race it was Noah Stiemke and Tristan Cruz for the boys and Bailey Bahr and Mackenzie Murphy leading the way.  In the open race running their first 5K of the season Emmett Gerres and Ashton Holbrook where lead boys.  For the girls open race Rebecca Bruegemeier and Faith Miner led the way.  The Junior High race was led by Evan Nelson and Austin Eyrich for boys and Isabelle Haefner and Abby Mickus for the girls.

Thursday we made the long trip to Fairmont to challenge the south half of section 2A.  The home team was the favorite in the girls division but the Tigers had a terrific day upsetting their host.  Lizzy Schmidt ran a new school record time of 19:36.7 bettering teammate Emily Berger's 2015 record of 19:55.  Cassie Stolt ran a PR lowering her best to 20:16.  Emily Berger ran well as did Jordyn Williams in a new PR time of 20:38.5.  McKenna Herrmann also PR'd in 20:43.5.  The top 7 finishers for the girls all earned medals by placing in the top 25.  On the boys side Kyle Siemon placed 2nd running a new PR of 17:01.1 with Drew Hasting 3 seconds back in 4th place after taking a tumble on the slippery course.  Mikkel Schmidt, Ben Hunsader, and Hunter Schmidt had break out runs helping their team to a 5th place finish.  Times were excellent in the Junior High 1600 meter run nearly all the young runners finished in PR time.  Abby Mickus and Meghan O'Laughlin led the girls while Emmett Gerres and Evan Nelson led the boys.  Conditions were not the best for the I 90 race but Belle Plaine came out fast and had a great day.

Can't forget the Homecoming relay Friday from New Ulm.  This year was the farthest we have run ever and conditions were not great but spirits where high.  Thanks to all the parents that helped drive and provide lunch to participants.  You made the day fun!

Coming up the rest of the week, it is pretty busy.  Practices Wednesday and Thursday after school with our spaghetti feed on Friday after school (no practice).  Kids are to sign up for a working time parents are welcome.  Bring your friends and family the food is fabulous.  Saturday is the Scenic Byway Half Marathon which we host 2 water stops down on the Blakely road starting at 9:30 ending around noon.  The 7-9th graders host the stop closer to Blakely and the 10-12th graders the stop closer to Belle Plaine.  Each group needs to come up with a theme for their stop and bring their enthusiasm.  Runners judge the water stops and prizes are awarded.  Historically we have done very well.

Wednesday-3:20 Practice
Thursday-3:20 Practice
Friday-Spaghetti Feed at Oakcrest after school to 7:30pm.  Sign up for a time to work.

Week Seven

With three races in seven days it was very impressive to have 37 kids PR at the Jaguar Challenge on Tuesday.  We had top 10 finishers in 5 of the 6 races against some exceptional competition from larger cities schools.

In the junior high boys race Emmette Gerres placed 5th good enough for a medal.  Teammates Adam Stiemke and Ashton Holbrook were not far behind in 29th and 34th respectively.  Abby Mickus ran her way to a second place finish in the girls junior high race with teammates Alyana Lindahl and Isabella Haefner close behind in 11th and 14th.  In the girls varsity race Lizzy Schmidt ran a new PR of 20:16 leading a contingent of Tigers to a 4th place finish. The top 5 scorers for Belle Plaine finished under 38th place.  Drew Hastings set a new school record running a 16:58 in the boys varsity race.  He erased a record held by Pat Slack set in 2005 of 17:06.  Kyle Siemon also place in the medals at the Challenge in 9th place.  In the boys JV race Colton Bahr led the way in 48th place.  The final race of the day, JV girls, Emily Berger finished in 3rd place followed closely by Savanna DeYoung (7th) and Alaina Herrmann (8th).  The JV girls finished in 2nd place four points behind powerhouse Edina.

Friday is the homecoming relay. Permission slips for the homecoming relay were sent home on Monday.  They need to be signed and returned by Wednesday.  Permission slip
