MRC

We had been waiting for Conference the whole year. It was what we trained for and what we strived for. From the minute the season began, we have been doing everything with the intent of winning conference. The week before everybody was on edge. Nobody wanted to get injured, but unfortunately conference coincided with homecoming week, so kickball was off limits. Never the less the team had a fun wednesday at the annual Schroeder spaghetti dinner. Now to talk about the race, we swept every race but boys varsity. But we were still close, last year we got 3rd but this year we moved up to 2nd place. Also 3 out of 10 of the top guys were wearing a Belle Plaine jersey. Boys JV dominated their race taking the top 7 spots. Eighth-grader Elliot Ruud won the race with a time of 17:48.30. Senior Janessa Meulners won her race as usual and all together the Varsity girls won in a very close race over NYA 43-47.  JV girls won by a whopping 19 points and 7th grader Emily Berger place second with a great time of 17:05.90. For JH boys Eighth graders Mikkel Schmidt and Jesse Barringer, took 3rd and 4th place respectively. JH girls also had a great race and Jamie Zahn won her 3000m race with a time of 13:25.10. All together Belle Plaine XC did amazing. Next year we will come back and hopefully sweep the entire meet. With a lot of hard work and determination, it is easily a possible achievement. So until next year, work hard and run harder!

Boys JV Wins Swain

The trip to Swain started with the collection of good intentioned contraban, and ended with our best showing ever.  The boys JV team of Dylan Bigaouette (2nd), Max Hughes (3rd), Tony Dvorak (6th), Carter Corl (8th), Jack Otto (10th), Derek May (15th), Taylor Witt (17th), and Noah Hastings (21st), out distanced the rest of the field scoring a mere 29 points.  In the girls JV race Hailey Witt (3rd), led the team to a second place finish.  Thea Iverson (18th), Jamie Zahn (22nd), Trinity Webb (23rd), Courtney Fogarty (26th), Jessica Bruggemeier (29th), and Emily Krautkremer (50th), were the other JV girls team members.

In the girls Varsity competition Janessa Meuleners (3rd) lead the girls squad to a 4th place finish the best ever by Belle Plaine.  There were 3 ranked teams in the race the girls out paced a ranked Lake City team by a few points.  Danika Schroeder (39), Alissa Schultz (42), McKenna Hermann (58), Hannah Witt (73), Skylee Schwingler (84), and Cassie Stolt (94
), turned in great performances on the soggy course.

In the boys Varsity freshman Kyle Siemon led an outstanding effort by the boys squad which finished in 8th place tied with Proctor winning on the tie breaker.  Sam Gregory was the 6th man, tie breaker, for the tigers finishing in 69th place.  Following Siemon were, Kellen Bergs (48), Carter Olson (53), Tyler Schumacher (65), Brendan Mackadanz (67), Gregory, and Elliot Rudd (72).

Le Sueur Giants Invitational Co-Ed

There is no course as scenic as the cross-country course at the Ney Center. Beautiful ponds, forests and grassland make it a great place to run, and an even better place to compete. At this meet it was boys vs girls in the unique co-ed races. Guys tried to stay ahead and the girls tried their hardest to "chick", or beat, the guys. But it was also Belle Plaine vs the other competing teams, and it was Belle Plaine who won. We swept both the Varsity and Junior-Varsity races. Also our team got an outstanding 37 PR's!!!!!!! All-around everybody did fantastic and we had a lot of good performances, but most importantly we now have an additional two wins to our roster

Waconia and Apple Valley

The Waconia Crown College meet was a great meet. We won Boys JV & JH and we also won Girls JH. Our Boys Varsity got third and out girls Varsity and JV got 2nd. Unfortunately, we could not bring anything home to prove our victories because they switched to handing out T-shirts???? and not trophies. Despite this everybody had good performances and a lot of fun.

Apple Valley was an interesting race. Even though our team is tiny compared to some of the other teams there, we still made a big footprint. For Varsity girls we got 13th, with Senior Janessa Mueleners getting 7th place! Varsity boys had a lot of great performances which helped them finish in 10th place. Boys and Girls JV got 5th and 9th place, respectively. JH boys also did really well landing themselves 8th place. All around everbody did really good and 20 of our athletes even had amazing course PR's.  This meet just proved that quality, not quantity wins races.

Baylor Park recap

The weather was great for running, not too warm and not too cold. On this perfect day we had a lot of PR's and a lot of good performances. Lets start out with varsity boys. Carter Olson ran a great 5k, finishing first for Belle Plaine varsity boys with a time of 17:42.5. Freshman Kyle Siemon really released the beast this time, becoming 2nd on varsity with a time of 17:58.8. All around our boys varsity did really good and we even managed to beat Jordan!
Our girls Varsity took first in their 4k race, with Janessa Meuleners leading the way with a first place time of 14:58.9. We won both JV races, but lets start by looking at the boys race. Carter Corl got himself back on varsity with a time of 18:49.7 and Taylor Lenz broke his PR by a whole whopping two minutes! For the girls, 7th grader McKenna Hermann has landed herself a firm spot on Varsity with a great time of 18:17.8 and the rest of our girls JV ran a good race as well, so we easily got first beating out our competition by 41 points. Make no mistake the Junior High Races were just as eventful. Jesse Barringer placed second in his 1-mile race and Mikkel had a great start to his xc season with a time of 6:12.6, no broken arm is going to hold him back. For our girls JH, Emily Berger won the race with an amazing time of 6:23.3 and our other girls had great times as well. Definitely worth noting is that we won both JH races. All around Belle Plaine did great at Baylor Park and we succeeded at winning 5 out of 6 of the races there. Hopefully with a lot of hard work we can make that 6 out of 6 in the future.

Gerry Smith Results

What a tremendous showing we had at the 30 team Gerry Smith Invitational held at the Montgomery golf course last Thursday.  In a lightning delayed start the girls JV started the Tigers out in a great effort finishing in 5th place.  Haley Witt led the way finishing in 20th place followed by teammate Trinity Webb in 30th place.  Freshman Thea Iverson(40), 8th graders Jessica Bruggemeier(45), and Jamie Zahn(56), rounded out the top 5.

Next up were the boys JV finishing in 1st place with 41 points.  Kyle Siemon led the way finishing in 4th overall with Max Hughes just behind in 5th.  Juniors Sam Gregory(9), Derek May(10), and Taylor Witt(13) rounded out the scoring for the Tigers.  The JV boys become the first Belle Plaine Tiger squad to ever win the Gerry Smith.  Congratulations!

Senior Janessa Meuleners led the girls varsity to a 5th place finish taking 2nd overall in a time of 15:40.  Juniors Danika Schroeder(28), and Alissa Schultz(31) crossed the line next, followed by freshman Skylee Schwingler(66, and 8th grader Cassie Stolt(71).  Hanna Witt and Courtney Fogarty rounded out the girls varsity squad.  Fifth is the highest we have ever placed at the Gerry Smith on the girls side.

In the boys varsity race Brendan Mackedanz(29) led the boys to a 7th place team finish.   Junior Dylan Bigaouette(49), and senior Carter Olson(54), followed with Sophomore Kellen Bergs(57), and senior Tyler Schumacher(58), rounding out the scoring.  8th grader Eliot Rudd(63), and Junior Carter Corl(85), completed the varsity line up.  This was an outstanding finish to a very competitive boys team.

In the junior high boys 8th grader Jesse Barringer led the team to a second place finish earning a medal by placing 3rd overall.  He was followed by 7th graders Drew Hastings(12), and Ben Hundsader(14).  Eighth grader Braydon Setterquist(15) was just behind with Tristan Cruz(37), rounding out the scoring for the junior high.  The young kids ran well many were close to their personal bests.  This is the highest finish we have ever had in the boys junior high.

To finish off the meet we had the girls junior high finish in 4th place.  They were led by Mackenna Hermann with a medal earning 2nd place finish.  She was followed by fellow 7th grader Emily Berger in 16th place.  Kate Wright and Emma Reed rounded out the scoring for the Tigers in 31st and 78th places respectively.  Fellow eighth graders Nicole Lundsten and McKayla O'Laughlin also ran.  The girls had a terrific showing setting a very high bar for the rest of the season.

Our next meet will be at Baylor Park near Norwood Tuesday, September 9th.

Mid point of week two

So we have had the first taste of competition on Monday at the Jamboree.  The kids ran very well on the same course they will run the MRC championships on later in the year.  I was especially impressed with our new runners how well they competed and supported their teammates.  Tuesday was a big practice day with a morning hill workout on Grove Street.  If your child survived that they are well on their way to having an excellent season.  Into the pool after our morning run on Wednesday and the watermelon relay.  We have also hit the weight room twice already this week.  Your kids are working incredibly hard.  Tomorrow morning we are taking busses out to the ney center for our morning practice.  Friday only a morning practice.

Make plans to attend the parents night BBQ on Monday evening with your family.  We will be having hotdogs and hamburgers and your entire family is invited.  Next Tuesday will be our first official meet at Mankato East.  Thanks for transporting your kids we have had a great time so far.

First Three Days

I can't believe it has only been 3 days so far it feels like a week.  Your young cross-country runners have been working very hard and have already discovered stoppelmann, deadman's, the brewery, and the ravine.  We have also hit the pool for a workout and the weight room twice.  We coaches have had a great time getting to know your kids these first few day.  Thanks for all of your support making sure your children are fed, hydrated, get good sleep, and of course for delivering them to practices.

Tomorrow we have two practices schedule 8:00 am a tempo run and 3:20 pm a run to the beach.  Friday is just one practice at 8:00 am and is our annual triathlon.  Your child will need to bring their bike Friday morning.  It will also be the second annual alumni triathlon, so if you know any Belle Plaine cross-country alum let them know.

Next week we start off the week with the MRC Jamboree Monday at 9:00 am at Watertown-Mayer high school.  The bus will be leaving at 7:15 am.  You are welcome to drive over and spectate if you have some time it will be a great event.

Things to Think About

As we approach the end of the summer it is important that we are reminded of dates that are important.

First, the eligibility meeting this year will be August 4th at 6:00pm in the South Gym.  Please mark it on your calendar to attend!  This is a great way for our parents to get to know the us coaches and receive consistent information about the season!

The school is going to an online registration this year for all of our activities, so the only paperwork collected will be Physical forms.  The medical information and the MSHSL eligibility form will all be online.
registration will go live on Tuesday, July 29th.  There will be computers available for people who need at the eligibility meeting as well as in the Career Center.

Second, the first day of practice is on August 11th at 8:00am in the commons area.
Also please look at the FAQ for some common questions, as well as the Calender for important dates such as meet and practice times.

Getting Near the End

First, tomorrow(7-12-2014) is Crazy Days in Le Sueur if you need a makeup race for the MRC racing series this is one of them.

Second, next week (7-19-2014) is BBQ days Bull run.  Make sure that we get out and show the community our enthusiasm for this sport. In addition, we need cross country kids to hand out the Half marathon advertisements during the BBQ days parade like we have done for the last couple of years. Contact Coach Jamison for more information.

We are now 30days before the start of the season.  Many of you started the summer strong but since then have fizzled the last little bit.  We are at the point of the summer that it is more important than any to get running.  Even if you are not going to hit your mileage goal, you can still help the team get the mileage goal.  This goal is very important it shows how the TEAM puts in the time and miles over the summer.  If you need a group to help you get running the summer leadership has two "practices" everyday.  The times are on the calender.

Also all practice times for the season as well as meet time are on the calender as well please plan to be at practice every time and day we have practice.

Thursday, July 10, 2014

Keep it up!!!

I have seen and heard of many of you working hard toward your running goals over the summer.  I am most impressed with the offseason dedication of our cross-country athletes.  Keep up the good work.  If we want to have a successful season it take the entire team.  See you at the bull run.

BBQ Days Parade

I am in need of a half dozen cross-country runners to help hand out flyers for the half marathon during the BBQ days parade on Saturday July 19th.  If you want to help email me at sschroeder@belleplaine.k12.mn.us.  Thanks.

We're Half Way There

Here is the detour information if you are going to Henderson's Sauerkraut days run.  The race is scheduled to start at 8am.  This detour is about 45min so please plan accordingly.
  • Take Co Hwy 8 exit toward MN-93/Le Sueur
  • Turn right onto Co Hwy 8/336th St
  • Turn right onto Co Rd 17/391th St
  • Turn right onto MN-19 E - leads to Henderson
We are half way to the season folks.  It is time to get serious if you have not started please do, if you know of a teammate that has not started yet invite them to go running together.  Last year we had a great number of people run miles over the summer and that can be attributed to the success that we saw in the year.
If you are wondering why the weight room is not loaded yet, that is because I will load that at the end.  There is NO need to try and load in the mileage counter.  The coaches in charge of the weight room take attendance and will let me know who is working and also who is not.

The season does not make you great, the off season does.

Miles I Need More Miles

Over the course of the summer the miles that have been documented will be updated.  Here is the first mileage update.

As you can see that many of you have not reported or not ran any miles yet this summer.  As move through summer it is key that we run our summer miles.  Summer is a time that we can make great strides as an individual and therefore also as a team.

We accomplished so much last year because of the miles that we ran as a team.  If we want to improve and get better we need to run those miles.

Remember that the weight room is currently going on.  I would highly suggest going and doing the distance running weights.  This workout plan will have you progress throughout the summer and will work your total body.
Over the winter we had the largest group in the weight room lets make sure that the other sports see how hard we work by going and doing the work.

Remember that this Saturday is the first MRC racing series race. The race starts at 9am.  It is a t-shirt exchange, meaning you bring a t-shirt from a race or another sport that you are in and put it in the bin.  Upon completion you will grab a t-shirt that you want.
